To our wonderful design team – they have scooped the Best Bathroom Furniture Brand award in the 2017 BKU Bathroom & Kitchen Update awards!!

Utopia has won this coveted award, which looks at all aspects of the business – not just the furniture designs but the overall performance of the company, from product quality to service and aftercare. So, to all the bathroom designers, clients and customers reading this, do make sure you have a very good look at the latest Opula design from this already-successful wall-hung modular range.

Dreamy Greys …

For anyone who may still feel a little daunted by choosing bright or strong colours for the bathroom, I should probably say ‘don’t be!’ It’s still possible to have a gorgeous bathroom that blends together a choice of subtle shades – but which will still have a massive impact. Yes, you can still add a touch of colour by including little accessories or interesting light fittings.

Start off with a low-key scheme, such as items from the Opula range in Powder Grey; see the whole range here . Add pattern and texture by choosing patchwork-effect wall tiles and keep the scheme anchored and low-key by including neutral stone-effect porcelain floor tiles . Then, having created a calm, subtle ‘shell’, add touches of colour. It doesn’t have to be extreme, think along the lines of a couple of luxury make-up bags, one or two decorative items, and even coloured glass light shades. Blush pink, rose gold and copper shades are favourites at the moment, but for more of a zing, you could go for fuchsia, leaf green or cobalt blue accents.

Opula cabinetry was designed by Richard Shore, Utopia’s Head of Design. Glass drawer and drawer fronts have luxurious, reflective qualities which at first glance look low-key and sophisticated – but with closer inspection the true luxury and elegance are revealed. Layout and design possibilities are extensive … the washbasin unit comes in 800mm and 1200mm single-drawer and single basin options; 1600mm single basin with twin drawer and 1600mm twin-drawer and twin basin. So there’s plenty of choice there to satisfy any discerning designer! The Powder Grey colourway is teamed with Nickel highlights. Don’t forget to choose an illuminated mirror as well – match the width of the mirror to the width of the basin cabinet for a neat and logical layout. LED lighting around the edge of the mirror creates the illusion of a frosted border, and of course adds a gorgeous glow to the whole room. And for hi-tech aficionados, these mirrors have a sensor-activated demisting system and an integrated Bluetooth sound system. Which means that singing in the bathroom without annoying anyone else in the house is an irresistible option …

Patterned Dove Grey tiles, also from Utopia, add texture and pattern to a sophisticated scheme. See the rest of the tile range here.

If you’re designing an en-suite bathroom, then the choice of bedroom accessories is important too; we’re rather keen on this gorgeous Watercolour Lines cushion, from the up-coming Autumn Winter collection 2017 from Marks & Spencer. Team it with a pair of sleek table lamps; these are from Next’s Autumn Winter 2017 collection.

If you’re having a browse around for quirky accessories for the cabinet surfaces, try the Matthew Williamson collection at Debenhams (for the storage jar) or once again, from Next’s Autumn Winter 2017 collection, this pretty shell decoration.
