I’ve been hearing all about Utopia’s covetable new Lustre range, it’s an up-to-the-minute, totally new modular collection that will be a mega-hit with savvy bathroom designers.

When Richard Shore, Head of Design for Utopia Bathrooms started working on the new modular range, his vision was to create a complete sensory experience for the bather. The bathroom has become a retreat, where we go to relax by soaking in a soothing bath, to perhaps gather our thoughts after a hectic day or to ponder on the following day's plans. He explains the reasoning behind his vision … ‘I wanted to create a collection that engaged the users vision, sense of touch and even their hearing’ he says. The idea was to produce a collection that not only looked beautiful and alluring, but felt beautiful too, with silken smooth surfaces adding a sense of opulence and luxury. The result became the Lustre modular range which combines sculptural shapes, tactile surfaces, stunning mood lighting and a high-quality Bluetooth sound system which adds the final touch of luxury.

The Lustre range is pared down and simple; there’s a choice of three sizes for the single drawer washbasin unit – 600mm, 800mm or 1000mm widths, which means it’s perfectly suited to a small bathroom, or for larger spaces a 1000mm width unit will become the ‘statement piece’ of the room. Drawer fronts are glossy and reflective glass in a choice of four shades; Sea Green, as shown here, as well as Everest White, Powder Grey and Indigo. The glass is toughened, of course, and has a recessed handle in Copper or Nickel. Perfectly on-trend and adding a warmth to the colour schemes. As far as the basins are concerned, this innovative range includes a White option in Coralux material, or glass. The glass basins are available in Sea Green or Powder Grey. Consequently, designers can produce subtle, softly coloured schemes or go for striking combinations with juxtaposing colours.

The other two furniture options are a mirrored wall cabinet, which includes a mirror back to the interior of the cabinet – adding a very luxurious feel, and a socket for shaver/toothbrush charging. The tall wall-mounted cupboard is perfectly proportioned at 850mm high, with two glass shelves, mirrored internal back and soft-close mechanism. This type of tall cabinet is a boon to bathroom designers and planners – it’s wall-mounted so doesn’t intrude visually on the floor area, whilst at the same time it can easily hold all the toiletries and bathroom bits that a family accumulates.

As far as lights and sound are concerned, both wall cabinets come complete with sensor operated lighting. The tall wall cabinet has sensor operated internal lights and LED illumination along the bottom edge (as does the basin cabinet and the mirrored wall cabinet). And so relaxing bathers or early-morning shavers can listen to soothing music or the latest news; the integrated Bluetooth connection in the wall allows easy, safe listening.

The Sea Green colourway is an inspired colour choice; it is absolutely on-trend, works beautifully with the latest copper and nickel finishes, and of course, has that soothing, relaxing look. I’ve recently picked up some vintage milk glass bowls in this soft sea-green shade, I’m going to keep my eyes open for more colours!  As far as accessories are concerned, there are plenty of copper and rose-gold accessories around, from gold wire bathroom bins to soap and lotion pumps. It’s a look that will become a classic of the future, I can’t imagine that anyone who chooses this colourway will ever want to change it …

And if you need some accessory inspiration, perhaps a splash-proof chair for robes and towels or a neat little table for books and mags, here are three of our favourites.
